TRAVEL TIPS

The U.S. Virgin Islands is an unincorporated territory of the United States.Driving      U.S Driving Permit accepted
Currency (USD) U.S Dollar
Electrical 115 Volts
Telephones Country Code 1

Tip #1
Remember to bring either a passport or a birth certificate along with a photo I.D. U.S. citizens do not need this documentation upon arrival but when departing, everyone is required to show proof of citizenship. This is also required if you are planning a day trip to the British Virgin Islands.

Tip #2
Pack light! Just don't forget hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Island attire is pretty casual. Shorts and casual outfits are perfectly acceptable for most island dining. If you are planning a special night of fine dining, gentlemen should pack slacks but jackets are not required (and ties are strictly prohibited).

Tip #3
If you are planning to rent a car, reserve it in advance. It is sometimes more cost effective to rent a car at $45-$65 per day than to rely on taxis which charge $6-$8 per person one-way to most locations around the island. To ensure availability and a better deal, make reservations for a car prior to arriving on St. Thomas. The following agencies have rental cars available at the airport:
Avis 1-800-331-1084
Budget 1-800-626-4516
Hertz 1-800-654-3131

Tip #4
Note that the standard island greeting is "Good Morning," "Good Afternoon," or "Good Evening." It sounds so formal but so nice. You will find that native islanders are more helpful and friendly if you precede any interaction with one of these greetings.
