Helpful response to embassy complications

There are times when I question the use of passport/visa services. Why not save money and send paperwork directly to the embassy/consulate? Recently, there was a complication at the embassy providing my visa that caused them to stop giving visas and led to a large backlog. TDS helpfully held onto my visa, went to the embassy daily to check on progress, and made sure that my application went through quickly once the embassy's problem was resolved. I was very grateful for their service.
This was my first time with TDS, and I was a little leery of sending my passport, but it was a fast and professional process. I was kept informed along the way as to the status, and from start to finish maybe two weeks. I would use them again.
