REQUIREMENTS FOR NON U.S. CITIZENS TO OBTAIN VISA TO ENTER SOUTH
AFRICA
U.S.
citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business travel staying up to 90 days in
this country. A valid U.S.
Passport is required.
A
visa is required for Religious Mission travel.
Any
other U.S. citizen who wishes to travel to the Republic of South
Africa for any purpose other than tourism or business negotiations
(e.g. work, study, religious activity, adoption, immigration, or stays longer than
stipulated in the entry requirements) should contact directly,
the embassy or nearest consulate.

letter should explain all of the following:
- The
letter should explain the purpose of the trip, the nature
of the duties to be performed, name and address of company
to be visited in South Africa, and guaranteeing financial
support and return transportation.
- Invitation
from the company or organization in South Africa may be required,
at the discretion of the Consulate.

Notes
- The
South Africa visa is usually valid for a single entry within
3 months
from date of issue provided the passport remains valid. The
length of stay is determined at the airport on arrival.
- A notarized
consent letter
from both parents is necessary to authorize the South African
Consulate to grant the required visa to a child, in the case
of a minor (under 18 years of age).
- Visitors
to South Africa traveling to neighboring states such as Botswana,
Lesotho, Swaziland, or Zimbabwe must ensure they are in possession
of visas valid for those countries, if required. If they intend
returning to South Africa, visas for the RSA valid for more
than one entry is required for which an itinerary and written
request must be submitted with the application. The written
request must be a separate letter.
REGISTER YOUR TRIP:
The U.S. Department of State encourages all American travelers to register with their local Embassy or Consulate when arriving in a foreign country. Registration helps the Embassy to provide important services for American citizens residing or traveling abroad. Some of these services include:

Locating individuals in cases of family or personal emergencies,

Relaying important travel and safety information about the region,

Arranging evacuation transportation in cases of natural disaster or civil unrest,

Issuing replacement passports when originals are lost, and
-
A number of other administrative services relating to personal documentation.
Without the information provided through registration, the Embassy is severely hindered in its ability to provide these services. Many of these services involve emergency situations and time constraints, therefore failure to register will almost certainly lead to delays at moments when you can least afford them.
