Brazil Visa Requirement for U.S. Citizens To End June 17, 2019

Brazil now issues a Visitor Visa ( VIVIS ) to all applicants applying for a Tourist, Business, Transit, Artistic or Sports Activities, the visitor visa replaces the 4 separate visa types previously issued by Brazil. Once you have been issued a Visitor Visa you can enter Brazil for any of the five purposes that it covers.

A) NO EMPLOYMENT IN BRAZIL: The holder of a visitor visa (VIVIS) is prohibited from engaging in paid employment by a Brazilian entity while in Brazil.

B) SOME TYPES OF PAYMENTS ARE ALLOWED: The holder of a visitor's visa (VIVS) may receive certain forms of payment from the government, from a Brazilian employer or from a private entity, such as reimbursement for travel expenses (the Consular authority will verify the applicant's paperwork in order to establish if the payment to be received by the applicant is compatible with a visitor visa).

If the applicant is going to receive any sort of payment from Brazilian sources, he/she must provide comprehensive paperwork related to the intended trip. Often in these situations an applicant will be required to apply for a different visa type.

The visitor visa can also be used for travelers that intend to compete for prizes, including money, sports competitions or artistic or cultural competitions.

C) STOPOVERS AND TRANSIT: No visa is required for a stopover or connection in Brazilian territory, provided that the traveler does not leave the international transit area. If the traveler is going to leave the international transit area, a visitor visa is required.

As of January 11th 2010, Brazil stopped issuing visas that bear "first entry must be within 90 days from the date of visa issuance" allowing travelers to schedule their trips more freely. Brazilian visas are usually good for multiple entries for the time of the visa's duration. If necessary an extension may be obtained from the Federal Police in Brazil if requested at least 30 days prior to its expiration for a total stay of up to 180 days per year.
If the visa was issued prior to January 11, 2010, it must have been used within 90 days of issue date, if not used the visa has expired and a new visa must be applied for prior to traveling to Brazil.

Please send TDS your current valid and signed passport. It must not expire within 6 months and must have at least two blank visa pages. Foreign Embassies cannot issue a visa on a page not labeled as a Visa page. Amendment and Endorsement pages in the back of the passport cannot be used for issuance of a visa.
A visa cannot be stamped on a page even if only one Small Stamp is on the visa page. If you do not have any blank visa pages in your passport, TDS can assist you in applying for additional pages. If your passport expires within 6 months, you must renew your passport and then we will secure your visa with the new passport.

Please send 1 recent professional color passport-type photograph, photo must have been taken in the last 6 months, be 2 inches by 2 inches in size.
Only JPG/JPEG, GIF and PNG files are accepted with a minimum dimensions of 431x531 pixels for the photo. The file can be no larger than 300KB.
Photo must be on a plain white background and you must be facing forward, eye glasses are not recommended.
As part of the application process you will need to upload your passport type photo, we recommend saving your photo to your desktop prior to starting the application form.
