The Tanzanian Government has made a complete change to the way they grant their visas to “Business Travelers.” In the past all applicants for a Business visa were typically granted a 1-year multiple entry visa as a default, this is NO LONGER the case as the Tanzanian government now has 5 different visa types that full under the category of “Business Travel.”
Three of the new visa types are only granted for Single entry visas; the remaining two are granted for 1-year multiple entry visas as in the past. When you apply you must be certain to apply for the correct category of visa based on the purpose of your journey to Tanzania. The embassy will look over your documents and make a determination based on the documents supplied as to which visa type you will be issued.
If you apply for one of the 2 visa types that offer 1-year multiple entries and the embassy determines your paperwork does not support the visa type in question, they will issue you a single entry business visa at a high charge.
The 5 visa types are listed below:
Business - Single Entry Only
Business NGO - Single Entry Only
Volunteer - Single Entry Only
Meeting & Conference - Multiple Entries
Missionary - Multiple Entries
The final entrance authority into Tanzania is determined by the immigration officials at your point of entry into Tanzania, even with a visa issued by the Tanzanian embassy if the immigration officials feel you are attempting to enter Tanzania using an incorrect visa type you can be fined and have your visa status changed.
Applicants applying for a Tourist visa are still granted 1-year multiple entry visas.
Non-US citizens applying for a visa to visit Tanzania for any purpose are now limited to Single or Double entry visas.
