Afghanistan Business Visa Requirements

These requirements are applicable for US Citizens applying at the Los Angeles Office

Please send TDS your current valid and signed passport. U.S passport must be valid 6 months beyond intended stay and must have three consecutive blank passport pages. Foreign Embassies cannot issue a visa on a page not labeled as a Visa page. Amendment and Endorsement pages in the back of the passport cannot be used for issuance of a visa.
A visa cannot be stamped on a page even if only one Small Stamp is on the visa page If you do not have any blank visa pages in your passport, TDS can assist you in applying for additional pages. If your passport is not valid 6 months beyond intended stay, you must renew your passport and then we will secure your visa with the new passport.
Please send 2 recent (within 6 months) professional passport-type photographs on a white background.
Digital and non-passport photographs are not acceptable.

Please send a copy of your round trip airline tickets, or itinerary or e-ticket, or letter of confirmation from a travel agent. The itinerary must show the applicant's name, date of arrival and departure from the country, and flight information. The Embassy does not recommend purchasing your ticket prior to a visa being issued.
A business letter of responsibility (sample) is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to:
Consulate General of Afghanistan, Visa Section, Los Angeles, CA
The letter must explain all of the following:
Nature of business to be performed.
Name and address of reference to be visited.
Introduction or permission letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chamber of Commerce of other related official bodies.
This letter should request Multiple Entries visa if required.
Work permit and business license.
Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds for the visit.
Applicants passport number
The letter should be signed by an officer of the company other than the applicant.

Effective May 13th 2015:
A "Visa Approval Notice" is required to be submitted along with your visa application form.

Your host company or organization must apply for a visa approval notice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan. Once this approval has been issued you must request that the original notice be sent to you, at this time the consulate will not accept a copy as part of your visa application process. 


A copy of your medical clearance or letter from your physician's office is required. The medical clearance or letter must:

  • Be issued by a licensed physician who must sign each copy and must certify that the applicant is free of any contagious disease, especially Ebola.
  • The license number and address of the physician should appear on each copy.
  • Medical clearances should be used within three months from the date of issuance.

Media personnel/journalists are required to provide an introduction letter stating the purpose, duration and places they intend to visit in Afghanistan.
