These requirements are applicable for US Citizens applying for a Tanzanian Volunteer visa in Washington DC

Please send TDS your current valid and signed passport. U.S Passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond your arrival date and must have at least one blank visa page. Foreign Embassies cannot issue a visa on a page not labeled as a Visa page. Amendment and Endorsement pages in the back of the passport cannot be used for issuance of a visa.
A visa cannot be stamped on a page even if only one Small Stamp is on the visa page. If you do not have any blank visa pages in your passport, TDS can assist you in applying for additional pages. If your passport is not valid 6 months beyond your arrival date, you must renew your passport and then we will secure your visa with the new passport.

A business letter of responsibility (sample) is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to:
Embassy of Tanzania, Visa Section, Washington, DC
The letter must explain all of the following:
Nature of business to be performed
Name and address of reference to be visited
This letter should request Multiple Entries visa if required
Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds for the visit
The letter should be signed by an officer of the company other than the applicant.

Invitation LetterInvitation Letter

Provide an Invitation Letter form the applicants organization or office or the organization or office in Tanzania, the Invitation must include:
Information about the organization you are visiting, including its full name, contact information, telephone number, address and signature.
Organization/Company official seal/stamp.
Specific purpose of your trip including places to be visited.
Full address of where you will be staying.
Your name, gender and date of birth.
Your arrival and departure dates from Tanzania
Who will be financially responsible for you while in Tanzania.

Applicants wishing to stay over 90 days must apply for a Residence Permit while in Tanzania, Residence Permits are issued by the Tanzanian Government while you are in the country, they cannot be issued by the Tanzanian Embassy in the USA ahead of your trip.
